Blikastadir is the first landscape-led and nature-based neighborhood in Iceland and one of the last development opportunities in Greater Reykjavik – and our very first project in this amazing country.

Blikastadir transforms 67 hectares of former farming land into Iceland's first landscape-led and nature-based neighbourhood.

With Blikastadir, we are creating a new type of neighborhood in Iceland centered on nature, restoration, climate adaptation, and local identity.

Covering a total of 67 hectares and 3,600 new homes, a new school, and a host of new shops and local businesses, Blikastadir is designed to preserve and enhance the former farmland’s natural values and interweave nature, people, and buildings.

Blikastadir is designed to preserve and enhance the former farmland's natural values and interweave nature, people, and buildings.

In Blikastadir we prioritize nature. By starting with in-depth fieldworks and investigations, we have mapped the former farmland’s natural values and used them as drivers for the planning.

In Iceland, new developments often flatten the landscapes and destroy their natural qualities. In Blikastadir, we are going the opposite way:

By comprehensively reading and analyzing the landscape and its amazing ravines, bedrock, wetlands, and streams, we adapt the new development to the area’s nature – ensuring that the wonderful Icelandic landscape is preserved while future-proofing the neighborhood against climate change.

By preserving the existing nature while adding a host of new nature qualities – for example new wildlife habitats and nature islands – the development will also provide amazing views and nature experiences for the new residents – right outside their doors.
