Zhanjiang Cultural Center

 As a challenge to the senses the experience of Zhanjiang Cultural Center’s landscape is intensified by the rhythm of the days, the seasons, the climate and the light. A complementary selection of four local landscapes is used as inspiration to layout the wide diversity of sensorial experiences for the visitors. Zhanjiang is the Mainland of China’s southern-most city and its high temperatures have caused reason to make a gathered building- and landscape strategy that aims at enhancing the performance in terms of passive cooling. With a lush nature as material a strategic planning the vegetation based on the existing wind- and sun conditions create sheltered areas, shaded and fresh, where spontaneous meetings and activities can take place.
