The project aims to show how high-rise buildings combined with native floras and faunas can bring new utility and amenity values to the cities and its people and create.
The light of Manila
SLA has designed a new large and green public plaza for Manila’s new iconic tower that features a wide range of activities, aiming to show how high-rise buildings are able to give back amenity and utility values to the public realm. A dense canopy of native trees covers the plaza and creates the ambience of a Filipino tropical forest and provides both shade and shelter, while creating a pleasant micro-climate, filtering air pollutant and buffering storm water. The result is a new type of gathering place in the middle of Manila that celebrates the cultural heritage and emphasizes the strong Filipino penchant for gatherings and celebration in public.
